得知 余清禄先生 去世的消息，我们来自独立学校 ( Sekolah Merdeka ) 感到悲痛。 我们向家属表示哀悼。 我们在下面用英文写了一份哀悼声明。
We, from Sekolah Merdeka, are immensely saddened by the news of Mr Yu Chin Liik’s recent passing. We would like to extend our condolences to his family, his comrades, his friends, and his community, especially those of the Sarawak Central District Friendship Association.
Despite having met our members on only two separate occasions, Mr Yu has taught Sekolah Merdeka so much, and it has been a lofty privilege for us. We highly respect his dedication to the revolutionary cause, even up until his later years. We are inspired by his commitment to preserving Sarawak’s anti-colonial history, keeping alive the spirit of the North Kalimantan revolution.
We are also honoured to have been tasked by Mr Yu with the translation of some publications by the Sarawak Friendship Association during our last visit. In honour of his memory, we will ensure that the translation project is completed to the best of our abilities so that his efforts in preserving this history alongside his comrades can reach more people. May his work ignite the flame of revolution in the younger generations so that the peoples of Sarawak, Sabah, and the Peninsular may finally be liberated.

尽管余先生与我们独立学校的成员仅有过两次会面，但他给予了我们极其宝贵的教导，我们深感荣幸之至。我们极为敬佩他为革命事业奉献终身，即使到了晚年也不曾懈怠。他致力于维护砂拉越反殖民历史、延续北加里曼丹革命精神的坚定承诺，深深鼓舞了我们。
在上次拜访时，余先生委托我们翻译砂拉越友谊协会的一些出版物，我们对此亦深感荣幸。为了纪念他，我们将竭尽全力完成这项翻译工作，以期他与战友们共同守护的这些历史能够为更多人所知。愿他的工作能在年轻一代心中点燃革命的火焰，让砂拉越、沙巴以及马来半岛的人民最终获得解放。

I remember Mr 余in the mountains of Northern Thailand. It was cold and misty and he was explaining that Sarawak was a country. I was from the country next door, and I remember meeting him there in KK, at the airport. We sat for a meal at one of the airport cafés and we spoke to each other about the history and geography of Borneo; I had just come back from the Kuamut, the great Kinabatangan River. After that we drove with an old friend of his to see the Petagas War Memorial. I had been born in that city but I had never been there; it is fitting that the first time I went was with him. I remember his reflection in the plaques as he told me about this history. Mr 余was a man whose experiences had been many, who is known for his courage and dedication, but I also remember him for the instances of his small kindness. He was always patient, even when I spoke to him in my halting Mandarin that I had not used regularly since I was small. Another thing I remember him for is his love of the land. When we first met him in Sibu, he told us all about the jungle, explained to us about the tapang tree, which stands mighty and tall in the rainforest. I have never been to the rivers in Sarawak but I imagine they are similar to the Kinabatangan: muscular and earthy, and when you are going through them, everything stops still—you can hear the trees and the animals and the whole world moving around you. The land is ancient and everlasting: it has been here before us and will outlive every one of us, and we are lucky to be here together. Mr 余 was someone who knows what it means to love a land that deeply, and I know that it loved him also. Although we did not know each other for that long, I was lucky to have known him too.

我记得在泰国北部的群山中遇见余先生。那时天气寒冷，雾气弥漫，他向我解释砂拉越曾是一个国家。我来自邻国，也记得曾在亚庇的机场与他相遇。我们在机场的一家咖啡馆共进简餐，交谈着婆罗洲的历史与地理；那时我刚从宏大的京那巴当岸河、从瓜穆特归来。之后，我们与他的一位老友驾车前往斗湖战争纪念碑。我出生在那座城市，却从未去过那里；第一次去竟是由他陪伴，想来也是缘分。我记得他在纪念碑铭牌前的倒影，听他讲述这段历史。余先生一生阅历丰富，以勇气与奉献精神为人所知，但我同样记得他那些细微的善意。他总是很耐心，即便我用着自儿时后便不常使用、磕磕绊绊的普通话同他交谈。他另一个令我铭记的特质，是对土地的热爱。我们在诗巫初次见面时，他便向我们讲述雨林的一切，解释雨林中巍然耸立的达邦树。我从未到过砂拉越的河流，但我想它们与京那巴当岸河相似：雄浑而质朴。当你穿行其间，仿佛时间静止——你能听见树木、动物，乃至整个世界在你周遭呼吸、运转。这片土地古老而永恒：它在我们存在之前便已存在，并将比我们所有人都更长久；我们能一同在此，已是幸运。余先生深深懂得何为如此热爱一片土地，而我知道，这片土地也爱着他。虽然我们相识不久，但能认识他，我同样深感幸运。
洪前辈您好啊
我的小学同学来自东南亚许多国家，我们之间保持着久远的友谊，因此，多年前通过勿洞的同学，我在北京初识了余先生。
我从事所在刊物的“华侨华人”专栏采编工作，与海外同胞接触较多。特别是1995年做《华侨与抗日战争》图片册和这次协助延安革命纪念馆筹备纪念抗战胜利八十周年展览《改变世界的战争...》，对华侨抗战在中华民族抗战中的地位，有了进一步的升华，并结识了一批难得的海外同胞。
余清禄先生以他的真诚和不懈努力，把包括砂拉越、西马、泰国、新加坡和印尼的华人朋友们联合起来，关注并参与到这次中国的纪念抗战胜利八十周年展览《改变世界的战争》，展览筹备中，并亲自组团引领这些国家的四十多位老友代表来华参观了该展览的首展，这对延安革命纪念馆、延安市侨联和陕西省侨联来说，是有史以来的大事。特别是这个展览以同样的内容，在北京中国共产党历史纪念馆同期展出，其中有关海内外华侨参加抗战的内容，让首都的观众们耳目一新，达到了很好的展览效果，为此，上级领导提出了延长该展览在北京的展出时间。
余清禄先生对参与这个展览高度重视，他组织各国老友提供图文资料并漏夜赶写文稿、搜集粘贴图片。在那段日子里，他联系来华行程，事无巨细，用尽心力，在与我们和延安革命纪念馆的同志们微信交流的过程中，把这一切安排得妥妥贴贴，高效而有条不紊，为此，我由衷地钦佩这位难得的海外同胞。
突然得知他患病已到弥留之际，我心里很难接受，发信给洪惠莉女士要全力抢救，直到看见孩子们为他撒骨灰的视频，才知努力无望，心碎了一地般悲痛不已。
从yanfang先生发来的悼词中，我进一步了解了余先生的历史和为人，深深感到我长久以来敬重余清禄先生，把他看做师长和志同道合的海外同胞，是很有道理的。他是中华民族的子孙，也是砂拉越的儿子，他曾为这片国土的独立与发展倾尽毕生心血，为砂中友谊所付出的满腔挚爱，正如拉让江一样将永远奔腾不息，激励着后来人为理想和信念而不懈奋斗
